Cloud Couch Dupe Review

Have you ever sat on a sofa and immediately had to cancel all future plans because you can't fathom getting up? This is what it's like sitting on the Restoration Hardware "Cloud Couch." Ok, maybe that's a stretch but it's pretty close! Then, reality sets in when you glance at the price tag of a whopping $6,000 for a sofa only large enough to seat three people. OUCH!

Immediately, I was determined to find a dupe for the infamous RH sofa. After a few weeks of sourcing, I decided to go with the Living Spaces "Utopia" 96in. Sofa. It's now been almost 3 years and the most asked question I receive on Instagram is, "how do you like the Utopia sofa?" So without further ado, here is my honest review and some things to consider before your make your purchase...

Let's start with the Pros:

  1. Price Point. For the comfort and style the sofa provides I feel the price of $1,400 is right. I don’t see the “cloud” sofa trend going anywhere soon so I feel it’s a good investment.

  2. All cushions/pillows are removable and can be machine washed. The covers aren’t so tight that you feel like you’re wrestling your sofa to get them back on.

  3. On-trend Linen fabric color "Caitlin Flax" has threads of ivory, beige, and brown making any kind of minor dirt, coffee or chocolate spills blend right in which makes the utopia sofa a good choice even if you have kids and/or dogs.

  4. Deep seats meant for ultimate lounging.

  5. The Living Spaces Utopia sofa goes with just about any existing furniture and home decor style.

Cons:

  1. Your Utopia sofa will start to pill in about three months so you will need a fabric shaver (this one from Amazon works wonders). I wouldn't say the pilling is a deal-breaker but it's worth noting.

  2. Daily fluffing is a must if you want to keep it looking nice and not messy. Try to view it in-store if you can so you can see how it looks after it’s been sat on hundreds of times. Spoiler Alert: you’re not going to like it but it’s also important to note that the sales associates aren’t going around and fluffing the sofas every day.

  3. Size. It seats 3 people, max. If you want to lay down and get cozy, 2 people. If you want to lay down and stretch your legs, only 1 person. The sofa is 96" long but each armrest is 8.5" so the actual seating space is 79"- something to think about if you’re already short on seating.

  4. The Utopia sofa sits low, and I mean LOW. The seat itself is 18" from the ground. If you're hoping to sit and rest your head, turn away now because this is not the sofa for you. There is absolutely no way to rest your head/neck unless you scoot your butt to the edge of the sofa and slouch.

All in all, I believe when searching for the perfect sofa you should have your personal needs in mind. You want your investment to last so make sure you’re purchasing it for the right reasons and not just because it’s aesthetic or trendy. You should ask yourself how you will be using it. Will it be used to gather with friends and family? You probably need a large sectional. Do you have kids and pets? You probably want a sofa with performance fabric in a darker shade, or one that's slipcovered and washable. I hope you found this helpful. I’ve added a comment box below so If you have any questions, ask away!
